Why I Chose Massage Therapy For years, I have been fascinated with the body and how it works. As a child I was a gymnast and athlete that received Physical Therapy, which sparked my interest in the body and its ability to heal itself. Through studying Health Sciences, practicing yoga, attending Massage Therapy schooling, I grew a deeper fascination with holistic health. I believe the fostering of a body, mind, and spirit connection is crucial to maintaining a healthy life balance. There are many reasons I chose to become a massage therapist; insatiable interest in holistic health, the need to balance my work and family life, and the ability to impact the lives of those around me in such a positive way. However, one reason stands out above the rest, and that reason was inspired by my family.
Family Despite the fact that I had yet to study the incredible healing art of massage, my entire family would come to me with their aches and pains from the time I was young. I grew up blessed to be a part of a hard-working farm family. I watched my dad persevere through pain and soreness because a job needed to be done, regardless of whether his body hurt or not. During my older sister’s most painful times suffering through autoimmune struggles she would flop her legs in my lap, point to her sore and inflamed joints and say, “fix me.” Though she knew she was being somewhat humorous in demanding such a request, I desperately wanted to do just that…to fix her. So I would let my hands do what felt natural to me, working the affected areas of her body the best I knew how. She often expressed to me that I seemed to know what I was doing and provided her with some much needed relief. After I graduated college, I knew I wanted to find my niche in the holistic health field. Though I enjoyed working in the customer service/retail world, I felt compelled to be providing a service more beneficial to others. With the encouragement of my practice patient sister, my supportive husband, and other family and friends, I pursued my massage therapy licensure. My first time working on my mom was a powerful experience. Since before I was even born her life had consisted of taking care of us kids and making sure we were healthy and happy. It felt so good to be able to give something back to someone who has done so much for me. Through Natural Wellness Massage Therapy, I am thrilled to be able to share therapeutic massage with many others who deserve such compassionate care throughout the Cedar Valley area and beyond! Anxiety and Depression Relief Though all massages benefit those suffering from anxiety, such a large percentage of the population needs more natural remedies available. Personally, I have suffered from anxiety disorders for many years and understand how crippling it can be. Like many, I was prescribed medication but desperately wished to seek natural remedies. Through lots of research and trial and error, I learned adjusting my diet, practicing yoga and meditation, breathing techniques, aromatherapy, and massage all work together to help me manage my anxiety. Each individual is different, but through discussion and understanding I will work to customize your treatment plan specifically for you to get the most relief. By combining specialized massage techniques, aromatherapy, sound therapy, deep breathing techniques, and meditation, you will be sure to find much needed relief. The massage treatment directly helps the feelings anxiety and depression, targets the physical symptoms that occur due to the client’s reaction to their anxiety and depression. Massage therapy can reduce the cortisol levels (a stress hormone) of the client that helps to decrease the stress symptoms like increased blood pressure, heart rate, and feelings of anxiety. Whether you just feel “stressed out”, or suffer from severe anxiety attacks and depression, together we will work towards a healthier and more peaceful you. Natural Wellness Natural Wellness is inspired by the type of healing I hope to provide for my clients. I believe nature itself holds the answer to many of our body, mind, and spirit struggles. Living a life more in tune with your own body (and nature around you) leads to a type of wellness that should be actively sought after. I also believe there are many illnesses or conditions that have a natural treatment or cure, or one that can work together with Western medicine to heal. For example, Natural Wellness uses only high quality essential oils for aromatherapy treatments as there have been proven benefits behind every oil used.
The Logo Trees have been known throughout many cultures as symbols of life, physical and spiritual nourishment, transformation and liberation, spiritual growth, and fertility. They offer safety and protection to creatures of all kinds, and nourishment for others. Like a tree, if we are able to find our roots we can graciously bend in the wind. As a yoga practitioner, the tree pose is one of the most grounding and rejuvenating poses. ﷯
